Famous Funnies in 1933 is the first comic book released in the USA

Comic books have come a long way since then. Once thought to be only for children, comics and comic books have found a foothold in the hearts and minds of people of all ages. TV shows like The Walking Dead, Arrow, Gotham, Umbrella Academy, Wonder Woman, and many others have brought comic book faces into homes since the 1960’s. Big screen movies from Avengers to Venom have introduced even more people to an art form which, at one time, was thought to be sinful. Judging from the line up of movies scheduled through 2021, comic book adaptations aren’t going away anytime soon.

On the flipside of book to screen, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Star Wars, Star Trek, and more have jumped from film to comic books.

As with our magazine department, we stock over 150 new titles of comics for children and adults. Scooby Doo, Casper, Superman, Captain Marvel, and more are released regularly. Comics are shipped on Wednesdays and on the shelves that night.

We also offer a “pull and hold” service for both the comics we carry and others that are available. What this means very simply is, if you want a certain comic, we issue you a box, and your requests go in that box so no one else gets their hands on them. The service is free, our only request is that you pick the comics up on a regular basis, for example, once a month.

What we carry is by far not the amount of comics and comic related items out there. Every month, Diamond Comics Previews comes out. This big book and it’s companion booklets for DC and Marvel, announce what is coming out in two months. This allows a reader to pick what they would like and preorder comics and more. Previews items include posters, t-shirts and other apparel, statues, mugs, and anything else you might want to decorate your own Bat Cave, Fortress of Solitude, or room at Hogwarts.

In addition to new comics, we have a large selection of graphic novel, both new and used, action figures and puzzles, and over 17,000 back issue comics going back 50 years. We also carry Warrior of the Word a locally written and illustrated comic.

Come check out our ‘Comic Cave’ and immerse yourself into your own comic adventure.

I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic-book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers. And then I began to realize: entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain people, you’re doing a good thing. “—Stan Lee
